Palmdale sits at about 2,650 feet in the Antelope Valley, on the western edge of the Mojave Desert. The San Andreas Fault runs along the south side of the city, where a freeway cut on Highway 14 exposes sharply folded rock layers. Joshua trees dot the open land, and winter occasionally brings a dusting of snow.
